Webster Winter Challenge

Webster Groves girls basketball coach Josh Spuhl tried to come up with a positive thought about his squad playing the brutal Webster Winter Challenge Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 2-3.

"We get to play at home," Spuhl said.

The eight-team tournament includes defending Class 5 state champion Kirkwood and defending Class 4 state champion Incarnate Word Academy. Kirkwood defeated Incarnate Word, 76-69, in last season's championship game.

The other participants are St. Joseph's Academy, Parkway Central, Cor Jesu, Columbia Rock Bridge and Washington.

First-round games include Webster Groves vs. Columbia Rock Bridge at 6 p.m. on Jan. 30 and Cor Jesu against Kirkwood at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 30. The semifinals are Feb. 2, with the championship Feb. 3.
