Festival Season Is Here In Full Force

September 14, 2018

It is a weekend for parades and festivals! And at this writing, the weather forecast looks great. It is unfortunate we cannot all be three places at once.

Old Webster Jazz and Blues

The Old Webster Jazz and Blues Festival has been playing the third Saturday in September since 2001. There will be stages on Gore Avenue and on Allen Avenue (near St. Louis Bread Company). The stages back to the Union Pacific rail lines, so in addition to the thump of blues or the wail of a saxophone, there is often the percussion of a freight train or the blast of a train horn.

Festivities will run from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday. Music offerings include the Air Force Band, Anita Rosamond, the Webster Groves High School Jazz Band, Bach to the Future, Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers, Marquise Knox and more. In addition to music, there will be food booths, vendor booths and even PoJazz at McCaughen & Burr Gallery.

More details in this newspaper.

Kirkwood Greentree Festival

The many-decades-running Kirkwood Greentree Festival opens Friday night in Kirkwood Park at Geyer Road and Adams Avenue.

Saturday morning the traditional Greentree Parade assembles on the Essex Avenue side of Kirkwood High School, loops along Kirkwood Road to Argonne Drive and west to the park.

Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday will feature the Folk Life Festival, music and a wonderful array of booths sizzling with aromas of tasty food treats.

In addition, runners and walkers are invited early next Saturday morning, Sept. 22, to the Rotary Ramble which will include 5K and 10K runs and a fun run for the kids. More details are elsewhere in this newspaper and online at kirkwoodmo.org.

Affton Days

The Affton Community Days Parade and Festival is also this Saturday. The parade leaves Affton High School at 10 a.m. and travels south on Mackenzie Road to the St. Louis Islamic Center at Reavis Barracks Road.

The festival will be at Lutheran High School South, 9515 Tesson Ferry Road. There will be activities for kids, food, a beer garden and music.

More information is in the South County Times and online at afftonchamber.com.

Events Upcoming

Calendars can be marked as well for the SunCrest Fest on Sept. 22 and a Sunset Hills Route 66 late night bike cruise on Oct. 5. Rock Hill's Fall Festival and parade and Shrewsbury's Fall Festival both fall on Oct. 6.

Local festivals are a part of what makes this season in our towns so special. Get out and enjoy!
