Theresa E. “Terry” Jones (nee Meyer)

Theresa E. “Terry” Jones (nee Meyer) of Shrewsbury died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008. She was 72.
While in high school, Mrs. Jones set two goals for herself: to be a nun and a nurse. After three years of high school she entered the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis in Springfield, Ill., where she became a nurse in 1958. She was then sent to St. Louis University and received a B.S. in medical records science in 1961.
Mrs. Jones left the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis in 1966 and continued in the health care industry as a lay nurse. She spent her professional life working in health care, serving in hospitals in Illinois, Wisconsin and Missouri. She was the first director of nursing service in the Hermann Area District Hospital, and clinical instructor in medical records at St. Louis University from 1975 to 1978. For the last 23 years of her career, she worked in the emergency room at St. Anthony’s Medical Center St. Louis. She retired from nursing in September 2003.
Mrs. Jones was the wife of the late Duane L. Jones, a.k.a. Barron Winchester, for 32 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one brother-in-law. She is survived by three sisters: Marie (George) Groner, Anna (Jim) Rouse and Rita (Tony) Weber, all of the Hermann area. She was an aunt, great-aunt and friend to many.
It was Mrs. Jones’ request that she be cremated. A Memorial Celebration will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 4 p.m., at CJ Muggs Restaurant, 101 W. Lockwood Ave. in Webster Groves. Interment private, Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hermann Area District Hospital, 509 W. 18th Street, Hermann, Mo. 65041; or Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63131.
