Kirkwood will hold a Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 7, marking the one-year anniversary of the shootings at Kirkwood City Hall.

The ceremony will be held on the steps of Kirkwood City Hall, 139 S. Kirkwood Road, beginning at 7 p.m.

The 50-member Community Gospel Choir will perform at the beginning and end of the ceremony. Rev. Renee Johnson, from St. Matthew CME Church, will open the ceremony with a prayer. Rev. David Holyan, First Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood, will deliver the closing prayer.

Candles will be lit by members of the Kirkwood City Council as the name of each public servant who lost his or her life on Feb. 7, 2008, is announced by Mayor Art McDonnell.

Traffic will be closed on Madison Avenue between Clay Avenue and Kirkwood Road, and on Kirkwood Road from Argonne on the north to Madison Avenue on the south, beginning about 6:30 p.m. Kirkwood Road will be open to traffic as soon as the ceremony has concluded.
