A Courtesy Diner is slated for the the corner of South Laclede Station and Heege roads, where Rayman's Sinclair auto repair shop and gas station stood for many years. It was razed last month.

Rayman's is moving to 7830 Watson Road and a Courtesy Diner will be erected at the shop's old corner, according to Joy Drennan, clerk for the Village of Marlborough.

Drennan said Larry Rugg, who could not be reached for comment, purchased the lot. He also owns the two Courtesy Diners at 1121 Hampton Ave. and 3153 S. Kingshighway Blvd.

Jimmy Sjakwesky, second shift manager at the Courtesy Diner on Hampton Avenue, cautioned that several permits must still be issued by St. Louis County before the new restaurant becomes a reality.

"They (St. Louis County) will review all the plans and be in charge of issuing most of the permits," Sjakwesky said. He added that if all goes well, securing permits, seeking bids and building the diner would take about nine months.

The new diner would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Sjakwesky said.

John Rayman, owner of Rayman's Sinclair, expects to hold a grand opening at the shop's new Watson Road location in the next week or two. The business will continue to do everything it used to except sell and pump gas.
