Winning entry in the Old Webster's Got Talent event will open the Old Webster Jazz and Blues Festival on Sept. 17
September 02, 2016
Three bands will compete for the honor of opening the Old Webster Jazz and Blues Festival at the annual battle of the bands competition, Old Webster's Got Talent, on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The event will take place at the historic Ozark Theater, located at 103 E. Lockwood in Webster Groves.
The winning band will perform at the festival on Saturday, Sept. 17, on the Autumn Hill Records Stage on Allen Avenue.
The Old Webster's Got Talent competition was created by the Old Webster Jazz and Blues Festival five years ago to spotlight up-and-coming area musicians, as well as those who may have been overlooked in the booking process for the annual free festival.
"We've had many talented musicians play in our competitions," said Terry Perkins, musical director of the festival. "And this year's lineup of competitors should make it tough on the judges as well. It promises to be an entertaining evening."
This year's competing bands include Wendy Gordon, The Miles and the Kevin Mitchell 4. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., followed by the band competition from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Each band will have a maximum of 15 minutes to play. After all the bands perform, a panel of judges will determine the winner. A cash bar will be open for the competition.
The evening will also serve as a thank you for the Old Webster Jazz and Blues Festival volunteers.
