May 18, 2012In lieu of flowers, the family of the late Joe Cole, who died Sunday, May 13, requests donations in his memory be directed to The Joe Cole Book Scholarship Fund.
The Kirkwood-Webster Groves Family YMCA established the Joe Cole Book Scholarship Fund several years ago to commemorate his 90th birthday.
Youngsters who have set higher education as their goal, but don't always have sufficient funds to cover textbook costs, will be the beneficiaries of this Fund. And since Joe Cole has dedicated his life to helping young people and is founder of Club 44, a Kirkwood based Christian youth organization, the naming of this annual fund in his honor will serve as a memorial to his outstanding efforts while assisting those in need at the same time.
Initially, two applicants equally share the scholarship fund amount of $1,000. It is hoped this fund will continue to grow so more youngsters can be helped. Those interested in making a donation can make their check payable to: "The Joe Cole Book Scholarship Fund" and mail or drop it by the Kirkwood YMCA, located at 325 N. Taylor Ave., Kirkwood, Mo. 63122.
Application forms are available at the Kirkwood YMCA and the counselors' office at Kirkwood High School, 801 W. Essex Ave. The deadline date for submitting applications is 5 p.m. on April 14, Joe Cole's birthday. Please deliver or address all applications to:
