The Missouri Department of Transportation has released a draft statewide rail plan and is now seeking public feedback at meetings to be held throughout the state. Residents' input for the future of freight and passenger rail in Missouri is needed.
In the St. Louis area, an open house will be held on Thursday, April 26, 4:30 to 6 p.m., at the Kirkwood Train Station, 110 W. Argonne Drive. A brief presentation will be made at 4:45 p.m.
Individuals can join the online public meeting by visiting www.morail.org (available April 10 through May 4).
Although i am not from Missouri, I find it very important for the growth and success of America to build High Speed Rail. Like we did in the 50's, we started the Interstate highway system, and look how well it has paid off, people can get travel across the great country by road.
Now its time to travel around this great country at 220mph and have someone else do the driving
Great idea but not right for these bleak economic times. Can the fed govt (and we who are footing the bill) really afford to make this type of expediture right now? Not many people use rail as means of transportation right now - why do you think it's going to change? Also, once the fed $ is gone and once the construction is done most of the jobs will be gone - - HOW MUCH IS THIS GOING TO COST TO MAINTAIN?? Illinois is already in the $ crapper. Another bright move by another not-so-bright governor.
This project is of vital importance to the economic health of the region. If we fail to complete this project, we will have further econmic hardships for its citizens. By providing jobs, it becomes a "self stimulus". I can only hope that the politicians will stay out of the way.
