May 18, 2012Kirkwood's Keysor Elementary School's Project IDEA has been awarded a $15,000 Let's Play Grant from Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and the national non-profit KaBOOM!
Project IDEA, which stands for Imagination, Discovery, Exploration and Adventure, will be an outdoor learning space at Keysor Elementary School that will encourage kids and adults alike to investigate, explore, discover and imagine.
It will be a natural, sustainable and inclusive area where students of all abilities, families and community members can learn and play together. Project IDEA also will be an avenue for creative and critical thinking while teaching children to be stewards of the environment. In essence, it will be a large outdoor classroom located on more than two acres of land on the west half of the school grounds.
The grant is part of the Let's Play initiative introduced in November of 2010 - a $15 million, three-year commitment from Dr. Pepper Snapple Group to KaBOOM!, the national non-profit saving play by ensuring there is a great place to play within walking distance of every child. Project IDEA plans to use the $15,000 to buy an innovative play system, which will be one of many inclusive play features integrated into the overall design of the outdoor space.
A formal check presentation and groundbreaking ceremony for Keysor's Project IDEA will be scheduled for later this month.
