The World Chess Hall of Fame, 4652 Maryland Ave., is celebrating its fifth anniversary on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The organization opened its doors in the Central West End in 2011 and has since welcomed nearly 60,000 visitors from around the world.
Join them for an evening celebrating chess, art, history and music. Guests will enjoy a sneak peek at three new fall exhibitions:
• "Animal, Vegetable, Mineral: Natural Splendors from the Chess Collection of Dr. George & Vivian Dean;"
• "Designing Chessmen: A Taste of The Imagery of Chess;"
• "Open Files: Celebrating 5 Years of Collecting."
The event will feature remarks by World Chess Hall of Fame Chief Curator Shannon Bailey at 7 p.m., live music by Erin Bode on the patio, and music by Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers across the street at Kingside Diner. Food and drink will be offered throughout the chess campus.
